Wave Picking

Wave picking is the process of picking multiple orders at the same time. Rather than going into the warehouse and grabbing the stock for one order at a time you may go into the warehouse and grab stock from multiple orders at once.

This process is used because it typically makes picking much faster, especially as in general warehousing a lot of the time that you've taken is consumed walking back and forth between the product area and somewhere like a packing bench, where you can pack the stock into a box to ship.

When you do a wave pick, it really cuts down on that transport time or walking time in the warehouse because rather than going to and from a location, say four different times for four different orders, you would only go there once and grab the stock for all four orders.

Within CartonCloud's warehouse management system, we allow you to wave up to a hundred different orders at one time, with the system aggregating all of the quantities. It means that you can go and pick a hundred orders simultaneously and bring them back and then pack them individually.

All of this is supported by both the web application and also by the mobile app. If you don't want to use devices in your warehouse, then you can still continue to print out wave pick sheets so that you can do everything off paper, also taking advantage of aggregating everything together.
