Shaun Hagen: Welcome back to This Week in Logistics. Today we're wrapping up the season by pulling together the three things that actually moved the needle for operators this year. Scott, where do we start?
Scott Murray: Pricing discipline, every time. We saw so many operators this season who were still pricing off gut feel instead of actual cost to serve. The ones protecting margin right now are the ones who know exactly what a job costs before they quote it.
Shaun Hagen: And that's not a one-off exercise either. Cost to serve shifts every quarter — fuel, labour, dock times, all of it moves. If your rate card was built two years ago, it's already wrong.
Rob Hango-Zada: That's exactly what we're seeing on the freight side too. The operators asking the sharpest questions about margin are the ones who've actually mapped their cost to serve down to the client and service level, not just an average across the whole book.
Sharon Prasad: From the warehouse side, it's the same story. We had to get real about what each client actually costs us to service before we could have an honest conversation about rates. Once you have that number, pricing conversations get a lot less emotional.
