Running WMS and TMS Across Multiple Sites in Australia: The Questions We Answered at MegaTrans 2026

If you're running regional DCs across Australia, two questions probably sound familiar: how to add a WMS alongside SAP without disrupting what finance relies on, and how to run multiple sites as one. Here are both, answered plainly.

MegaTrans 2026 brought Australian logistics operators together in Melbourne for two days, and the CartonCloud team had a great time running our handball comp and talking shop on the stand. Here's what operators were asking: how do you add a WMS alongside an existing ERP without disrupting it, and how do you manage every site from one login. Here's where we dive into the answers to both: ERP coexistence without disruption, and multi-site control without losing visibility.

  • Keep SAP as your system of record. A WMS and TMS add the scanning, picking, delivery tracking and real-time stock visibility SAP doesn't have, without the cost, risk or downtime of migrating off it.
  • One login across every regional DC. Scale into new sites without losing visibility, since every warehouse reports back into the same connected network instead of a separate system.
  • Standard SAP integration, not a custom build. Connects using methods most IT teams already have in place, which means a faster rollout with none of the cost or risk of a one-off integration project.
  • Site-level control with central reporting and billing. Stock, orders and users stay separate per warehouse, while leadership can still report and bill across the whole network from one place.
  • Support that's actually local, in your timezone. ANZ-based teams who understand Australian compliance and carrier networks mean issues get resolved without waiting on another timezone.

I'm Jake Moraghan, Business Development Manager at CartonCloud. Most of my conversations are with Australian operators who already run a WMS or TMS somewhere in the business and are now adding another site, another brand, or another layer of complexity. What I hear most isn't whether a new platform can do the job. It's whether it will work inside their existing systems, not replace them, and whether it can hold multiple sites together without extra admin.

At MegaTrans 2026 in Melbourne, our CartonCloud team spent 2 days on the stand and running our handball comp and talking shop. While chatting with operators between games, a couple of questions came up again and again: how do you add a WMS alongside SAP without disrupting it, and how do you run multiple sites from one login. If you're sitting with either one right now, this is for you.

The first question: how do you add a flexible WMS that integrates with SAP without disrupting corporate reporting?

Most mid-market and enterprise operators already run SAP somewhere in the business, usually for finance, procurement, or group-level reporting.

The concern we hear most is whether adding a WMS will disrupt SAP, or the reporting finance already relies on. The short answer is that you do not replace it. You put a logistics system alongside SAP and let each one do what it is built for.

  • SAP stays the system of record. CartonCloud sits alongside SAP and feeds it clean, real-time warehouse and transport data, so corporate reporting lines stay exactly where they are.
  • It connects the standard way. CartonCloud talks to SAP ERP, SAP Business One and SAP S/4HANA using integration methods (XML iDocs, EDIFACT, ANSI X12) most IT teams already have in place, so there's no custom build required.
  • The sync runs both ways. Purchase orders, ASNs, stock transfers and returns flow from SAP into CartonCloud. Pick confirmations, goods receipt and issue confirmations, inventory status changes and stock adjustments flow back.
  • The practical upshot: Warehouse and transport teams get a system built for the floor, and the finance team keeps SAP untouched as the single source of truth.

That distinction matters because replacing an ERP is a different project entirely, measured in months of migrating financial, procurement and reporting data. Adding a WMS and TMS alongside it leaves corporate systems where they are.

The second question: how do you manage warehousing + delivery across multiple sites in Australia?

Scaling across regional DCs is the goal for a lot of operators: more sites, more coverage, more volume, without starting from scratch each time. Getting there takes one system that gives you control at each site and visibility across all of them at once. That means:

  • One login, one connected network. Every regional DC is visible and reportable from a single account rather than stitched together after the fact.
  • Site-level control with central visibility. Stock, orders and users stay cleanly separated per site, while leadership can report and bill across the whole network.
  • New sites without a rebuild. A new site can be stood up in the system without rebuilding configuration from scratch, which matters for any mid-market or enterprise operator adding or shifting its regional DC footprint.

HD Warehousing is a useful illustration of that pattern at scale. They run a public 3PL site in Idaho alongside multiple private, dedicated sites including a large operation in Denton, Texas, all from one dashboard, and can stand up a new warehouse site in a matter of days. It is a US example, but it is precisely the regional-DC-at-scale shape Australian mid-market and enterprise operators are asking about.

"No matter where I'm at, I can open up CartonCloud. I can go into any of the dashboards for any of my warehouses, and I can see how many sales orders I have for the day, how many inbound purchase orders are coming in." — Chad Hildebrandt, Owner and COO, HD Warehousing.

Why does it matter that your WMS + TMS support is based in Australia?

When you're scaling across regional DCs, who you can call matters as much as what your system can handle. A lot of the warehouse and transport platforms Australian operators evaluate are run out of the US, UK or Europe. That means support from another timezone, another set of business hours, and a team that has never stood in an Australian DC.

CartonCloud is Australian-based, built by logistics people, with local support teams in ANZ. SAP integrations and multi-site rollouts both have a lot of moving parts, and that's exactly where local support earns its keep. Here's what that looks like day to day:

  • Real logistics people on the other end. The team understands Australian compliance and carrier networks, not just the software.
  • Your business hours, not someone else's. No waiting on another timezone when something needs attention.
  • Support that keeps up as you grow. As operations scale across sites, we're here to support you with industry advice and best practices.
"The support that our rep (Olivia) gives to us is second to none. She has gone and continues to go above and beyond to make sure that all our needs are met. Not only does she answer all our questions but she also helps us brainstorm best workflows for when we introduce/onboard new clients to the system. We are so appreciative for her support." — Zev H., Implementation Lead, G2 Review.

That kind of support compounds as a business grows. AustraCold, a Victoria-based transport and food logistics operator, grew volume over three years without adding headcount by working within CartonCloud alongside their existing processes.

"We've actually grown our business in volume over the last three years, but we haven't had to employ any extra staff. We have made use of what the system offers to us, and in consultation with CartonCloud support teams, we've been able to enhance our system." — Kevin Forte, General Manager Operations, AustraCold.

What this means for operators

  • Scale without an ERP migration. SAP stays exactly where it is as you expand into new regional DCs; a WMS system like CartonCloud feeds it clean data.
  • One login, every new site added. Growing the network doesn't mean losing sight of the DCs you already have.
  • Support that scales with you. Local ANZ teams mean issues get resolved in your business hours, no matter how many sites you add.

FAQ

Q: Can CartonCloud run alongside SAP without disrupting our existing corporate reporting?

A: Yes, CartonCloud runs alongside SAP without disrupting corporate reporting. It connects using the standard integration methods most IT teams already have in place, syncing purchase orders, stock movements and confirmations both ways. SAP stays your system of record the whole time.

Q: What's the difference between replacing an ERP and adding a WMS and TMS alongside it?

A: Replacing an ERP means migrating financial, procurement and reporting data, which is a multi-month enterprise project. Adding a WMS and TMS alongside SAP or another ERP means the logistics platform handles warehouse and transport execution and feeds clean data back, so corporate systems and reporting lines stay where they are.

Q: How does CartonCloud manage warehousing and delivery across multiple sites and regional distribution centres?

A: CartonCloud manages multiple sites from one login, with stock, orders and users kept separate per warehouse but reportable and billable centrally. New sites can be stood up without rebuilding configuration from scratch, which matters for mid-market and enterprise operators adding or shifting regional DC footprint.

Q: We're an Australian operator managing DCs across multiple states. Why do we need integrated WMS and TMS instead of separate systems?

A: Integrated WMS and TMS matters for multi-state operators because separate systems mean reconciling data by hand between them, which is where errors and delays creep in. One source of truth for stock, orders and deliveries keeps reporting and billing accurate as the regional network grows.

Q: Does it matter whether a WMS and TMS provider's support team is based in Australia?

A: Yes, it matters. SAP integrations and multi-site rollouts have a lot of moving parts, and when you need support, you shouldn't have to wait on another timezone. CartonCloud is Australian-based, built by logistics people, with local support teams in ANZ, so you're talking to someone in your own business hours who understands local compliance and carrier networks.
