Let's look at how to get the most out of your warehouse stock control software so you can get significant benefits daily.

Managing stock control becomes significantly easier with reliable software and the advantages range from cutting paperwork to automatically assigning picking duties.

In order to get the most out of your warehouse stock control system and software, there are a few things to keep in mind.

By doing these four steps well, you can save money, increase efficiency and grow your business.

1. Keep Outlay To A Minimum

Let’s start at the beginning and like any investment, software needs to deliver value. Outlaying tens of thousands of dollars for a full system to manage your warehouse immediately starts to bite. Investing in a digital cloud-based system means software can be run off smartphones and existing computers with a subscription, slashing outlay costs. Most warehousing functions can be done on a $500 smartphone and we’d recommend a new device for each job role paired with a $100-$300 bluetooth scanner.

2. Provide Initial and Ongoing Training

For a warehouse stock control system to reach its full potential, staff must be fully trained to use the software. However, some staff can be set in their ways and getting used to a new system can be a daunting proposition for staff, but it shouldn’t be. Software systems have never been easier to use. Initial training can start weeks before the software is rolled out and this is a great period to highlight the benefits of the new system and ease of use. Ongoing training with the software provider can assist with staff becoming familiar with the system and support anu new staff that join your ranks. The key is that your staff soon wonder how they ever coped with old paper-based systems in the first place.

3. Integrate with Transport Systems

Integrating a warehouse stock control system with other transport systems helps you get more out of both. Full integration will enable you to track stock from picking to final delivery with the added advantage of automated invoicing.

4. Don’t Set and Forget

Once a digital warehouse stock control system is up and running, it’s not be set and forget. Managers need to nimble and optimise their stock control system as time goes on. The stock control system can’t necessarily overcome inefficient floor plans, equipment needing upgrades or failure to prepare for seasonal changes.

Managers should be doing regular audits to see how they can better optimise their operations the stock control system will
